Overview
The Surgical Technologist III ensures that the operating room is properly prepared with the necessary instruments and equipment and assists the surgical team throughout the procedure by passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and use critical thinking to anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Able to perform second tech role in the presence of the surgeon. Proactively identifies needs for the department. Serves as a role model for students, new employees and fellow staff. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and practice of aseptic technique and surgical technique for more complicated procedures. Assists in development of policies, procedures and protocols on the unit level. Participates in processes to improve cost management and reduce waste. Assist in implementing changes at the department level. Serves as role model, coach and preceptor to new employees and other staff members. Acts as a resource or subject matter expert. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of varied case types and practice of aseptic and surgical technique.
Surgical Technologist licensure required in the state of practice. Must possess one of the following certifications:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Certifications – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) OR Tech in Surgery TS-C – Certification – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
