Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is one of just five Level 1 trauma centers in Virginia, home to the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance and the region’s first Magnet® hospital and nationally ranked heart program at the Sentara Heart Hospital. The hospital sits on the Eastern Virginia Medical Campus which serves as the primary teaching institution. Sentara Norfolk General and the Heart Hospital offers Transplant Services: Heart, Kidney and Pancreas. We are a Certified Stroke Center and the only Level 3 Epilepsy Center in the area.

Sentara Heart Hospital is the region's first and only dedicated heart hospital. Sentara Heart Hospital offers comprehensive cardiac services from diagnostic to open heart surgery and transplants at one location. This state-of-the-art hospital features all-private rooms, 112 inpatient beds and 36 pre-/post procedural rooms for patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures.
Our perfusion team supports over one thousand adult cases a year. Our Perfusionist works with innovative technology and programs such as heart transplants, CABGS, valve repair/replacements, ECMO, TAVR, and ventricular assist devices just to name a few.
Under medical supervision, the Cardiac Perfusionist prepares appropriate perfusion equipment for surgery, monitors equipment during surgery, performs pre- and post-operative maintenance on perfusion equipment, and computes parameters for surgery to facilitate quality patient care for all open-heart surgical procedures.
Required Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor's Level Degree.
- Basic Life Support Required.
- Certified Cardiac Perfusionist.
- *If hired without Cardiac Perfusionist Certification (CCP), it must be obtained within two years of hire date.
