Sentara RMH is hiring a registered nurse for the main operating room (general surgery). Our operating room nurses primarily circulate the 14 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms as the non-sterile person to complete charting or gather equipment if needed. Nurses are also dual trained to scrub in and assist surgery teams as needed. This is a day shift position with moderate – heavy call requirement.

Duties/Responsibilities
The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Registered Nurse Transition to Practice Programs at Sentara
This program is for new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this new specialty. This 15-week TTP program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in the OR. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice
Program includes:
- Formal delivery of fundamental perioperative concepts and standards via foundational AORN (Association of periOperative Registered Nurses) modules blended with in-person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skills labs
- Exposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelines as recommended by AORN
- Hands-on experience in the Operating Room alongside a trained nurse preceptor
- Opportunity to share your experiences/ networking with peers in a safe, protected environment
- A series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses)
